レッド・ツェッペリンが自分たちの多彩な音楽性をどーんと披露した2枚組、傑作アルバム。ハードに迫る「Custard Pie」「The Rover」「In My Time Of Dying」、幻想的な名曲「Kashmir」、ポップで繊細な印象を与える「Bron-Yr-Aur」「Down By The Seaside」「Ten Years Gone」「Night Flight」「Black Country Woman」、人気キーボーディストのイアン・スチュワートとの風変わりな「Boogie With Stu」など、バラエティに富んだ作品になっているが、特にツェッペリンを知らない人には、ファンキーでソリッドな「Trampled Underfoot」や「Wanton Song」のグルーヴ感に驚いてほしい。それにしてもジョン・ボーナムのドラムの言葉にならないものすごさよ。（麻路 稔）
